JEE Advanced 2018: only 13% of female candidates qualified
As per the results of JEE Advanced, about 14 girls are in top 500 ranks and 46 female candidates are in top 1,000 ranks.
This year, IIT Kanpur has prospered to the introduction of 800 number of seats at various IIT campus for girls.

1,202 girls have found a place in the top 12,000 ranks. In order to bridge the gender gap at the premier engineering institutes in India, IIT Kanpur, the center which had organized JEE Advanced this year had kept in mind the gender diversity plan of HRD Ministry.
- The plan suggests at least 8 percent more seats will be added to IITs this year to accommodate more girls.
- This will enhance female representation in popular streams like computer science and electrical engineering.
According to JEE chairman, the mandatory reservation and addition of seats for girls were to ensure 14 percent girls in every programme. Joint Admission Board has decided that more seats would be added to ensure that girls constitute 17 percent of total students.
